Green Anaconda snakes

The green anaconda is native to South America, making its home in swamps, marshes and streams. Their enormous size makes it much easier for green anacondas to swim in the water than to slither slowly on land. The green anaconda, with a girth of nearly 30 cm (12 in.) and a weight of 227 kg (550 lb.), is the heaviest of all snakes. length of 6 m (20 ft.) and a top length of 8.8 m (29 ft.) the green anaconda is one of the longest snakes in the world. Once an anaconda sights its target, it will grab the animal in its jaws, locking it in with its teeth. Once firmly grasped, the anaconda will coil around the prey and squeeze it until it dies of crushing or suffocation. It will then consume the carcass whole.

Anaconda is the biggest snake in the world but many take it as, also the longest snake that exists in the world. The truth is that Anaconda is considered largest because of its weight and not its length. Python is one snake that can grow even more than Anacondas so they are regarded longer than Anacondas. Anacondas have a variety of species which have different colours and sizes but the most popular and common among these are the 'Green Anacondas' and 'Yellow Anacondas'. They use their enormous force to whirl around and suffocate its prey, before they can kill it. The Anacondas are a non-venomous snake specie i.e. they do not kill by poisoning their prey, instead they squeeze it to death.

Despite his grand stature, Chilli only grazes on grass during the day and enjoys the occasional swede as a treat.
The heifer, who is almost as high as he is long, lives at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard, Somerset, after he was left on their doorstep aged just six-days-old. Chilli dwarfs most horses, is the same height as a small elephant and casts a shadow over his cattle companions who are about 5ft in height
"He now stands at 6ft 6ins from the floor to the top of his shoulder and he is massive when he holds his head up.
"We have made an application to Guinness Book Of Records and we are quite confident he will get it."
Chilli, who is 6ft 7ins long, was left running around on the doorstep of the sanctuary along with his twin sister Jubilee in 1999.
Over the years, staff noticed Chilli begin to tower over his sister and companions. She continued: "We don't know what has made him so tall. He doesn't eat that much and his feet and head are in proportion - he is just very large.
"He is a very friendly and gentle cow so we hopes he manages to break the record - he deserves it."
At present, the tallest bovine in the world is 6ft 8ins Fiorino, who lives in Italy.
A spokeswoman for the Guinness Book Of Records said: "I can confirm that an application has been received for Chilli which is currently under research."

The snake usually glides from tree to tree, though sometimes it sails from trees to the forest floor, and to do so it first slithers its way towards the top of the canopy. Once there, it hurls itself into the air, twisting and propelling itself up and away from its launching branch en route to a desired landing area. the tree snake performs a continual S-shaped serpentine motion while moving through the air. This gives the smooth-moving snake more stability and some control as it glides – similar to the way a person makes balancing adjustments walking along a line in the road. The snake’s movements are much more dynamic and rhythmic than those of other gliding animals. the biggest snake in the basket, but being small and ligthweight – about as heavy as four nickels – helps it with its aerodynamic activities. Why did the snake choose to take to the air in the first place? No one knows, though such vertical travel is quick, energy efficient, top notch for evading predators, and equally great for chasing prey such as lizards, frogs, birds and bats. Flying snakes are known to strike humans, but their bite is only mildly venemous.

the Tamil word “anaikondran,” which means “elephant killer.” Metcalf (1999) notes that the name first was probably from the Sinhala language of Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, and that in 1869, the Englishman John Ray wrote of “anacandaia of the Ceylonese, i.e., he that crushes the limbs of the buffaloes and yoke beasts.” For more than one hundred years the name was applied to a (python) snake from Ceylon, but in the nineteenth century experts began to use it for a snake residing in the Amazon basin; an 1849 British Museum Catalogue of Snakes lists “the Ancondo, Eunectes murimus, Brazil” (Metcalf 1999). Boas are a type of non-venomous snakes that are members of the Boidae family. Boas are basal snakes that are “primitive” in evolutionary terms (i.e. less derived). They are constrictors and most give birth to live young. They have anal spurs, a pair of claws on each side of the cloaca that assist in mating. Boas are named after cows (Latin: bos) because of the old myth that boa snakes pursue cows and suckle them until they are drained to death. Anacondas as members of the boa family are sometimes called water boas.

The snake initially strikes at its prey and holds on, pulling the prey into its coils or, in the case of very large prey, pulling itself onto the prey. The snake will then wrap one or two coils around the prey. Contrary to myth, the snake does not crush the prey, or even break its bones, but instead squeezes, tightening its grip to cut off circulation and preventing the lungs from expanding so that it suffocates.
